THE ROOM’s “Lisa” comes to MADCAP THEATERS plus Ramones Fever with ROCK ‘N’ ROLL HIGH SCHOOL and more Cult Classics! April 19 2010 |
COMEDY AND FILM Thursday April 29 - Movie Mashterpiece Theatre – Blood Orgy of the Damned (7pm) $9 The Phoenix National Comedy Theatre tackles Blood Orgy of the Damned (2001), a film that is so bad that the original audio was lost, so the film is silent...but laughs galore will ensue as the National Comedy Theatre troupe performs a live accompaniment to this b-movie schlock. In this “lost” Italian epic, young group of college co-eds bring pack a vampire prince and his lackey to modern, 20th century, America. Now the newly resurrected vampires must figure out a way to take a virgin bride, bring back hell on Earth and try not to overeat in the process. The live soundtrack performed by the Phoenix National Comedy Theatre will be recorded and used in the DVD release. BEST WORST MOVIE DOUBLE FEATURE Friday April 2 & Saturday April 3 – Fancy Pants (7.30pm) The Room (8pm) & Birdemic: Shock & Terror (10pm) Friday $10 Double feature or $7 per Film Saturday $12 Double feature or $10 for the Room & $7 Birdemic: Shock & Terror The Room (2003) back by popular demand! “You’re tearing me apart Lisa” the quintessential line from the unintentionally hilarious steaming pile of “relationship drama” will truly deliver when Juliette “Lisa” Danielle and Philip "Denny" Haldiman make a one night appearance at MADCAP Theaters, Saturday May 8th at 8pm. They will introduce the film and then participate in a Q & A and signing after the film, where Juliette will accept donations to benefit Purrfect Solutions Feline Rescue. This will be followed by Birdemic: Shock & Terror (2008). Perhaps the most discussed and anticipated avian-based disaster film since The Birds, Birdemic is equal parts both epochal tale and cinematic warning shot. It tells the story of a couple unexpectedly and unforgettably caught in the eye of a feather-based storm…an apocalyptic attack winging down from the skies in a twisted morass of feathers, talons and blood-soaked claws. Officially Rejected from Sundance 2009, it has to be seen to be believed! Both nights start off with a special live musical performance from local nerd core performer Fancy Pants who will present his hit “The Room” song and other favorites. GRINDHOUSE REDUX Friday May 14 & Saturday May 15 – Rock ‘N’ Roll High School (8pm) & Graduation Day (10pm) $8 Double feature - 35mm In Rock ‘N’ Roll High School (1979) a group of rock-music-loving students, with the help of the Ramones, take over their school to combat its newly installed oppressive administration. Featuring a wonderful cast (including Clint Howard, Paul Bartel, and Vincent Van Patten) and great one-liners (Joey Ramone: "Things sure have changed since we got kicked out of high school"), Rock 'n' Roll High School eschews anything resembling "reality." Graduating from high school has never been so deadly…Graduation Day (1981) After a high school track runner, named Laura, suddenly dies from a heart attack after finishing a 30-second 100-meter race, a killer wearing a sweat suit and a fencing mask beings killing off her friends on the school track team one by one. EXCLUSIVE ENGAGEMENTS Friday May 28 & Saturday May 29 – Zombie (8pm) & Strange Behavior (10pm) $8 Double feature - 35mm Zombie (1979) Directed by the Italian Godfather of Gore, Lucio Fulci this classic Zombie film follows a young woman’s search for her father who is missing since he made an expedition to the Antilles. Featuring the infamous Zombie vs. Shark underwater scene it’s a fan favorite amongst those with a fondness for flesh-eaters. Strange Behavior (1981) in a sleepy American town a couple of extremely violent murders take place. When the forensic evidence bafflingly points to each separate murder having a different perpetrator, Sheriff Brady thinks these events may be linked to the death of his wife years earlier. Australian produced and shot in New Zealand Strange Behavior is a rare and guilty pleasure for horror fans. |
