MADCAP Theaters presents a lost Cult Classic & new Indie hits this April on the big screen March 24 2010 |
| EXCLUSIVE ENGAGEMENTS Thursday April 1 (8pm) Friday April 2 & Saturday April 3 (6, 8, 10pm) – 44 Inch Chest $8 44 Inch Chest (2009). How far would you go to avenge betrayal? Colin Diamond (Ray Winstone, Sexy Beast) is about to find out in this gritty, provocative thriller. After he breaks down over the dissolution of his marriage, he kidnaps his wife’s lover, and his rage pushes him to the brink of murder as his motley crew of buddies urges him to exact brutal revenge. Ian McShane (HBO’s Deadwood), John Hurt (V for Vendetta), Tom Wilkinson (RocknRolla) and Stephen Dillane (Spy Game) unforgettably co-star in this compelling story that contemplates the nature of love and asks what it takes to be a man. BEST WORST MOVIE DOUBLE FEATURE Friday April 2 & Saturday April 3 - The Room (8pm) & Birdemic: Shock & Terror (10pm) $10 Double feature or $7 per Film The Room (2003) back by popular demand! The unintentionally hilarious steaming pile of “relationship drama” that’s been hailed as “Floor Plan 9 from Outer Space” and “without a doubt, the worst film ever made, including movies made on Betamax cameras in special education high school classes.” Gag me with a plastic spoon! This will be followed by Birdemic: Shock & Terror (2008). Perhaps the most discussed and anticipated avian-based disaster film since The Birds, Birdemic is equal parts both epochal tale and cinematic warning shot. It tells the story of a couple unexpectedly and unforgettably caught in the eye of a feather-based storm…an apocalyptic attack winging down from the skies in a twisted morass of feathers, talons and blood-soaked claws. Officially Rejected from Sundance 2009, it has to be seen to be believed! GRINDHOUSE REDUX Friday April 9 & Saturday April 10 – Chinese Hercules (8pm) & Black Belt (10pm) $8 Double feature The Martial Arts Double Mayhem begins with Chinese Hercules (1973). Like many martial arts film, this one is about redemption. The main story revolves around two characters Lee Hsi who vows never to fight again after he kills another man and Chiang Tai (Chinese Hercules) who is hell bent on killing as many people as possible. Both men’s destinies are intertwined. Bolo Yeung (Enter the Dragon) showcases his mammoth forearms and triceps frequently! This is followed by Black Belt (1973). Little is known about this Kung Fu rarity…but the high kicks and hi jinx will be plentiful! EXCLUSIVE ENGAGEMENTS Friday April 23 & Saturday April 24 (8, 10pm) – Carnival Magic $8 Carnival Magic (1981) resurfaced in 2009 after the print was found in the home of lifelong 60s and 70s schlock director Al Adamson (after he was murdered in his home and the completed independent production never reached the drive-ins). There were no prints struck except the master. Literally only a few hundred people have seen the film. Why anyone thought this was appropriate for children we’ll never understand. Granted, it might be educational for kids to see the lion tamer gratuitously slapping his girlfriend around or a teenage girl apparently giving an ape hand-relief (we didn’t believe it at first either), we don’t know if we’d be prepared to field Junior’s many questions about the unsavory goings-on in the cheapest, most depraved carnival this side of Tod Browning’s FREAKS. EXCLUSIVE ENGAGEMENTS Friday April 23 & Saturday April 24 (6, 8, 10pm) – District 13: Ultimatum $8 Two years have passed since elite police officer Damien Tomasso (Cyril Raffaelli) teamed up with reformed vigilante Leito (parkour originator David Belle) to save the notorious District 13, a racially charged ghetto populated by violent drug dealing gangs and vicious killers. Despite government promises to maintain order, the state of the district has deteriorated, and a group of corrupt cops and elected officials are conspiring to cause civil unrest in D13, looking for an excuse to raze the area and cash in on its redevelopment. Now Damian and Leito must join forces again, and use their mastery of martial arts and their unique physical skills to bring peace to the neighborhood by any means necessary… before a proposed nuclear air-strike wipes it off the map. With bone crunching fights and death defying leaps, this adrenaline charged sequel takes the groundbreaking parkour action from DISTRICT B13 (2009) to thrilling new heights. |
